YouTuber Mihlali took to Twitter to show off her boarding off a grounded jet. Watch below:
The South African influencer rented a jet for photos. As it can be seen in the video the jet had covers meaning, the jet itself is grounded or has been for a long time i.e it's not going anywhere. A Twitter user called her out for using a "IG Jet"
I believe it's important for her fans as well as South Africans to remember that we are in the middle of a pandemic and although aviation services have begun again, it is only to local destinations. Which is very unlikely in South Africa that anyone would take a jet to a local destination.
Here are some insightful unemployement numbers since lockdown began according to Mail & Guardian:
"South Africa’s unemployment crisis has been cause for alarm for some time now. But the Covid-19 pandemic — which could cause the country’s gross domestic product to contract 7.2% in 2020 — will likely see this crisis deepen.
The International Labour Organisation predicts that the pandemic will trigger massive losses in working hours, equivalent to 305-million full-time jobs, in the second quarter of 2020.
In his supplementary budget speech last week, Finance Minister Tito Mboweni said “unemployment is our single greatest challenge”.
In its worst-case projections, the treasury has forecast job losses of seven million.
The government has tried to stem the tide of this jobs bloodbath. By June 24, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) had disbursed almost R28-billion in Covid-19 relief from its temporary employer/employee scheme."
Remember to stay safe and stay home.
