Beyonce Celebrates Juneteenth with Black Parade + Creates a Black Business Directory


What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth is the official freedom day for African Americans it celebrates those who were enslaved in the United States. Celebrated annually on the 19th of June throughout the United States, it is yet to be considered an official holiday by US government. Specifically, it commemorates Union army general Gordon Granger announcing federal orders in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, proclaiming that all slaves in Texas were free. To commemorate this holiday Beyonce released a new single titled Black Parade to celebrate Juneteenth weekend:
